“The Bards Best Bits -with witty twists” – THE AGE

“Opportunities to see comedy of this calibre are all to few and
far between”  – THEATRE ALIVE

It’s silly, it’s slick, it’s chaotic, it’s clever. It’s full of surprises, misunderstandings, blunders and comic wit – it cracks open Shakespeare and infuses it with wildly exciting scenarios. It’s wickedly entertaining and it’s part of the 2014 Melbourne International Comedy Festival

This summer Glenn Elston’s brilliantly funny new adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will have you in stitches! This will be your most enjoyable and cheerful night out for the holidays as the splendor of Shakespeare Under The Stars comes to life with this inventive and groundbreaking comedy.

The central comical characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream (The Mechanicals) are the funniest group of characters that Shakespeare ever invented. In  A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Behind the Scenes they take you on a journey of how they arrived at performing Pyramus & Thisby for the Duke’s wedding. They take us on a roller coaster ride of side-splitting ideas as they explore the ‘other’ plays they could possibly perform for the Duke. Yes, the Mechanicals have discovered Shakespeare’s canon of work and are performing famous scenes from famous plays and sometimes their version of the whole play.

Which one will they decide to present for the Duke?

Directed and adapted by Glenn Elston and starring Kevin Hopkins, Simon Mallory,  Anthony Rive, Hugh Sexton, Syd Brisbane and Ross Williams.

The long range forecast says the weather will be bad next week - are you cancelling the show?
Shakespeare under the Stars is an outdoor event and as such is subject to prevailing weather conditions.  Whilst forecasts are naturally used as a guide, the decision to cancel a show is made by production staff on site and ONLY on the day of performance.  Weather conditions in Melbourne can be very changeable and also very much localised.  The Australian Shakespeare Company is very mindful of the comfort and enjoyment of our patrons and we make every effort to not cancel performances unnecessarily.    There will be times, if weather conditions change unexpectedly, when shows are cancelled just prior to performance or at a time when it is not possible to contact everyone far enough in advance to  prevent unnecessary travel.  Please remember that we are always happy to exchange your tickets should you prefer to attend another date – but they must be exchanged in advance of your performance.  Tickets for past performances will NOT be exchanged under any circumstances.
As the event is outdoors can I bring my dog/pets to the show?
NO for the comfort and safety of all patrons and the actors no animals, other then bona fide guide dogs and assistance animals, are permitted into the performance area.  Please do not attempt to bring your pets as you will be refused entry and no refund or exchange will be provided..
