In 2016, the Graduate Players Ensemble performed a musical version of Much Ado About Nothing at Na Pradle theatre, Prague. Since then we have been invited to perform as part of the Prague Fringe Festival in 2017, 2018, 2019, (post COVID) 2023, 2024 and 2025 The productions have been met with critical acclaim amongst the festival reviewers
In 2026 the program will centre on a timely production of Romeo and Juliet playing a Melbourne season at the Athenaeum theatre, touring to Stratford on Avon in regional Victoria, then on to Prague in the Czech Republic, for the Prague Fringe Festival.
This fee paying course gives participants the opportunity to work with professional ASC staff, including directors, musical director, choreographer and actors over a 12-week period as a full scale production of a work of Shakespeare is rehearsed and actors are coached in Shakespeare techniques and acting methodologies, including Commedia D’ell Arte, Clowning, Stage Combat and more.
ROMEO AND JULIET
Communication breakdown affects us all. Our production of Romeo and Juliet will be a modern re-imagining of Shakespeare's original famous tale of doomed love, drawing out the elements of failed personal and family connections, prejudice and devastating misunderstandings.
This highly physical production will create the world of the play rather than relying heavily on set pieces, and will encompass a grungy modern setting, in a world very similar to our own.
