School Holiday Program (NSW)

Every school holidays the Australian Shakespeare Company holds drama workshops for Melbourne’s budding young performers.

Students aged 8 – 17 can enjoy a fun filled week learning how to work on Shakespearean and traditional texts for the stage. Run by professional Australian Shakespeare Company actors and directors, these action-packed drama workshops are comprised of character work, unlocking text, exploring the world of the play, improvisation, clowning and stage combat (with plenty of games thrown into the mix!)

Enrolments close the Thursday prior to the start of each program.

Enjoy an action packed week with some of Shakespeare’s most beloved heroes and despised villains!

From Richard III to Rosalind, Australian Shakespeare Company Actors and Directors will take participants through some of the Bard’s best moments. The ASC will guide students in understanding why film and theatre professionals continue to return to Shakespeare’s characters.

The week will focus on questioning what makes a hero heroic or a villain villainous! Through storytelling, drama games, improvisation and scene study, the workshop will build towards a live showcase for family and friends.

The ASC believe theatre is a powerful tool for education, and fortunately it is entertaining too! Beyond understanding Shakespeare, our holiday workshops bring social-emotional learning directly into the rehearsal room in joyful, creative and purposeful ways.

Get ready to take the shackles off Shakespeare! See you there!

The plays are so different. Some are a bit the same, but each one is so unique. I love that the language is so different to now days. It’s so good to know why it’s important.

Daniel – Aged 10

I love the big range Shakespeare has! Comedies! Tragedies! These classes keep life in the plays and makes Shakespeare really fun!”
