Shakespeare Under the Stars

About the show

The most insightful and accurate portrait of human nature written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1601, Hamlet depicts its titular character as haunted by the past and immobilised by the future.

A tale of conspiracy, deception and moral ambiguity. A play where everyone has something to hide, its answer is far from simple. Under the shadow of “murder most foul” it plumbs the depths of its protagonist’s indecisiveness and the tragic consequences thereof.

The experience of Shakespeare Under the Stars and the atmosphere created by marriage of art and nature is inviting and refreshing as the audience and the actors embrace on a simple and compelling level of honesty that enriches their mutual engagement with the play. This is theatre that is about sharing the story together, taking the journey together and believing in the adventure because it is in a natural and uncontrollable atmosphere. Like life. Taking away the physical structures that protect us from the outdoors and taking away the traditional symbols of opulence and grandeur that intimidate us, brings theatre to its rightful place. A place that bonds the players, the play and the people together.

“Hamlet delves into the fundamental nature of the human heart like nothing else ever written. It exposes all forms of love and conflict, exploring their deepest depths and farthest limits.”
