About this production
Max. Sam. Lenny. Joey. Teddy. And Ruth. In a crowded house in East London lives a family of butchers, fighters, and men bound by routine and rivalry. When Teddy returns from America with his wife Ruth — a woman his family has never met — old tensions surface and an unsettling battle for control begins. As loyalties shift and desires emerge, the household is thrown into a dangerous and unpredictable power game.

Richard Piper
Max
Richard has spent forty-four years of his career on stage. Trained in London, he was soon performing on the West End in Grease and Elvis, and came to Australia in 1987 with cult cabaret band The Bouncing Czecks. Most recently, Richard appeared in Seventeen for Melbourne Theatre Company and Death of a Salesman for Red Line Productions. For Melbourne Theatre Company, he's appeared in over forty productions, including: As You Like It, The Lady in the Van, Twelfth Night, Born Yesterday, Double Indemnity, Ghosts, Music, The Gift, Drowsy Chaperone, The Daylight Atheist (Green Room Award for Best Actor). For Melbourne's Malthouse: The Black Rider, 'Tis Pity She's a Whore. For Sydney Theatre Company: The Secret River, Gross und Klein, Great Expectations, Moby Dick. Ben Geurens
Lenny
Ben Geurens is an Australian actor whose career spans theatre, television, and film across Australia, the United States, and Canada. A graduate of National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), Ben has appeared extensively on stage and screen for more than three decades.
Internationally, he is best known for his series regular roles in Reign and Legacies, alongside appearances in The Good Place and Rebel Moon directed by Zack Snyder. His Australian screen credits include The Jesters, Molly, Catching Milat, Paper Giants: Magazine Wars, Underbelly: Badness, Packed to the Rafters, Home and Away, and Neighbours. His film work includes the cult Australian horror Body Melt and the acclaimed independent feature Locusts.
On stage, Ben has worked with many of Australia's leading theatre companies. With Melbourne Theatre Company he appeared in Entertaining Mr Sloane, The History Boys, and The Glass Soldier. For Sydney Theatre Company he performed in The Great, and at Malthouse Theatre he appeared in Hate.
Ben has maintained a long creative collaboration with director, Nick Pollock, with the pair producing independent theatre works with productions of This Is Our Youth at 45 Downstairs and Shining City at Griffin Theatre Company and more recently developing an original immersive performance project together set for 2027.

Sam
David Field is one of Australia's most distinctive character actors, with iconic film and television credits including Chopper, Two Hands, Cosi and The Rover. As Sam, the family's softer, watchful brother, he brings warmth and quiet devastation in equal measure.

Eddie is a graduate of the National Theatre Drama School. Greg has most recently directed Swansong by Conor McDermottroe in Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, Los Angeles, and New York City. Glorydazed by Cat Jones and Howie the Rookie by Mark O’Rowe at Red Stitch. The Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov at Theatre Works. For the Stork Theatre, The Lover by Marguerite Duras and The Red and the Black by Stendhal - both productions starring Kate Kendall. In opera, Greg has designed Tristan and Isolde at the Palais Theatre. Otello and Verdi’s Macbeth for Bruce Beresford at Her Majesty’s Theatre. He also directed To Hell and Back by Jake Heggie. Designing and directing over 300 productions ranging from A Stretch of the Imagination starring Max Gillies for the MTC and STC, to the soul show Sam Cooke at the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne Arts Centre. Paul Norton
Music
Paul played bass in various bands, including The Runners, Wendy and the Rocketts, and Steve Hoy and the Hoy Boys, before launching a solo career in 1988. Signed to Mushroom Records, his single "Stuck On You' reached number two on Australian charts. The single from his album "Under a Southern Sky" was later chosen for Australia Day celebrations at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Paul toured Australia with The Countdown Spectacular, performing to 100,000 people nationwide in 2006. As the Musical Director for The Australian Shakespeare Company, he wrote the scores for Much Ado About Nothing, Jungle Book - The Next Chapter, Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet, As You Like It, The Dream Fairies, Barassi the Stage Show, Alice in Wonderland, and the comedy Certified Male.
Peter Amesbury
Lighting Designer
Peter’s career in live performance and theatre production spans more than 15 years, combining hands-on technical knowledge with a focus on producing and managing large-scale events.
Since 2013, Peter has worked with the Australian Shakespeare Company (ASC), developing a close collaboration with theatre director Glenn Elston OAM. Over the past decade, he has managed more than 100 seasons of theatre across Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide, as well as internationally through a nine-year relationship with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in London. His work with ASC has included outdoor Shakespeare, family theatre, musical theatre, and special events, helping bring productions such as Hamlet, Macbeth, Twelfth Night, As You Like It, The Wind in the Willows, Alice in Wonderland, and Tinkerbell and the Dream Fairies to audiences across Australia and the UK.
Peter’s role at ASC covers production management, touring logistics, technical coordination, and ticketing integration, working closely with venues, presenting partners, and creative teams.
Alongside this, as a lighting designer, creating designs for productions including Maria Stuarda and Lucia di Lammermoor with Melbourne Opera, Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny with iOpera, Godspell with Room 8 Productions, Walking with Spirits Festival with Djilpin Arts, Songs for a New World and Guilty Pleasures with Blue Saint Productions, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for ASC’s international touring season.
Peter is Melbourne Based and lives with wife Katie and their two dogs, Lucky and Scully.
Hannah Norris
Assistant Director
Hannah has worked with Greg Carroll as an Assistant Director on The Lover and Anna Karenina (Stork Theatre) and as an actor in Squizzy (La Mama) and The Red & The Black (Stork Theatre). As an actor, Hannah was nominated for a Green Room Award for My Name is Rachel Corrie and won the Underbelly Award at Adelaide Fringe for the one woman show CUT which was then presented in London and Edinburgh. Other theatre credits include Buried Child (State Theatre SA), Richard III, and Lady Chatterley’s Lover (Australian Shakespeare Company), national tours of David Williamson’s Let The Sunshine and Managing Carmen, as well as Shakespeare in schools with Bell Shakespeare & Complete Works. She has narrated numerous audiobooks and most recently performed alongside her mum in After You in Adelaide, Melbourne, Edinburgh, and London’s Soho Theatre.
Amelia Carroll
Costume Designer
Amelia Carroll is a Costume Designer from Melbourne, Victoria. In 2013 she did the costume design for Barry Dickins’ Lost in Ringwood at La Mama Courthouse, with Peter Corrigan as Set Designer. The following year she worked with Corrigan again as Costume Coordinator on The Consul for Australian Contemporary Opera Company.
She spent the next decade as a jewellery designer and maker before deciding to pursue costume design once more.
Amelia is currently studying Design and Costume Construction at the Victorian College of the Arts.
