Founded in 1839, the Athenaeum Theatre is a beautiful and historical theatre that is now listed on the Victoria Heritage Register.
It is the oldest public institute of Melbourne. It holds a range of areas for various entertainment types. A small studio is located inside the theatre along with a subscription library. There is a main theatre where comedy and music are usually performed.

The theatre is located in the heart of Melbourne, next to the Town Hall which is on the corner of Collins and Swanston Streets.
The closest station is Flinders Street which is one block away. Trams run along Collins Street and Swanston Street, stopping right outside the theatre.
The closest car parking is situated at the Westin Hotel on Collins (entry via Flinders Lane). Other carparks are located within the CBD.
The performance will be located in the upstairs theatre.
Box Office is located at the rear of the foyer. Enter through main entrance, head toward the bar on the right hand side of foyer. The Box Office is located next to the bar area.
Box Office Hours are Monday to Friday 9.00 am-5.00 pm. On performance days, it is also open 2 hours prior to the performance, as well as on Saturday9am-5pm and Sundays 1 1/2 hours prior to performance.
Access to Athenaeum 2 is possible for guests who use a wheelchair via the lobby lift.
However, please note, the Athenaeum's lift is the oldest in Victoria and due to its heritage listing has not been able to receive the updates needed to accommodated the size of some newer wheelchair models.
The lift door opening measures 660mm in width and the lift's depth is 1300mm.
Accessible bathrooms are available on the ground level of the venue.
